Apertura notturna di Giudecca 795 per il Redentore!!! -
Giudecca 795 night opening at the Redeemer's

On Saturday 18 July, the Redeemer's feast night, we'll be open until very late... May be beat last year's record (2.30 am) or not, Giudecca 795 wil be open at least until the end of the fireworks over St.Mark's Basin (midnight). Come join us!

The festival, being celebrated this year on 18 July, commemorates the end of the bubonic plague that killed tens of thousands of citizens in 1576. The present-day celebrations consist of fireworks at midnight on the third Saturday in July and a holy mass on Giudecca Island at the Franciscan church of the Redentore, a masterpiece designed by Palladio. Every year, the Doge made a pilgrimage there across a pontoon bridge erected especially for the occasion. Modern visitors can make the same pilgrimage to the island across the pontoon bridge -- the only time Giudecca is accessible on foot. During the festival, there is a regatta, bands and musical performances, church services, fireworks, and feasting in the streets.
